Tommy Amaker
The Thomas G. Stemberg '71 Family Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Basketball

In the 12 seasons since taking over as head coach of Harvard’s men’s basketball program, Tommy Amaker has reinvented the Crimson into an Ivy League power with a national presence. He has directed Harvard to a period of unprecedented prosperity in the form of seven Ivy League championships (2011-15, 2018-19), four NCAA tournament appearances (2012-15), three NIT appearances (2011, 2018-19), and six 20-win seasons (2010-15). With more than 400 career victories and a 230-131 record at Harvard, Amaker is the all-time winningest coach in Crimson history and ranks fourth all-time in the Ivy League.

Amaker has taken his role as an educator to heart, using the game of basketball to give his student-athletes opportunities to enrich their educational experience. During the 2018-19 season the Crimson met former US President Jimmy Carter following church services at Ebenezer Baptist Church where Martin Luther King Jr. was co-pastor. The team has also co-hosted events at the Harvard Institute of Politics each of the last three years featuring Arne Duncan '87Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Dr. Harry Edwards in forums moderated by David Gergen, professor Skip Gates, and James Brown '73, respectively.
