Harvard COOP // Senior Membership Development Officer
Summary of responsibilities:
Reporting to the President; responsible for all membership activities, including acquisition, retention and engagement on all platforms and channels and managing all processes, analysis, marketing and outreach to potential and existing members.
Job Functions:
As primary steward of COOP membership, responsible for creating and implementing marketing, outreach, digital and social media strategies to drive membership, member engagement and increasing member retention. Key focus is relationship building, including identifying and implementing mutually beneficial collaborations with other parts of Harvard/MIT and alumni groups such as the HAA and MITAA and student groups such as student government, social and athletic groups. Be the “face” of the COOP on campus and highly visible to the community to make sure the COOP’s message is communicated in its relationships with external constituencies with focus on campus outreach, coordinate with student directors on developing student group relationships and networking opportunities, seeking out appropriate touch points and have high visibility among campus groups and events.
Main duties and responsibilities:
SMDO will lead membership development efforts within the communities we serve, improve member engagement with the COOP, establish relationships with key constituencies on and off campus and any other tasks assigned by the President. This includes managing day to day operations of all membership activities across all COOP platforms, application processing, renewals and updates, prospecting, marketing implementation, relationship building and coordination with committees and groups associated with our membership, social media, events and outreach. This also includes membership website content development and maintenance, member database management, public relations campaigns, direct marketing, data analysis, marketing programs for member events as well as working closely with e-commerce operation and with COOP stores on store programs and integration with overall strategy.
Develop a budget and P&L which includes expected member levels, renewals and member profitability and manage on a daily basis to that goal with merchandise/marketing strategies that support the budget. Continually analyze membership data to ensure continued membership growth, identify opportunities to engage members and utilize analytic tools to improve our acquisition and engagement and increase retention.
Required Education, Experience, Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred. Harvard degree is preferred. 3-5+ years of progressive responsibility in membership marketing and management at a member based business or association and a deep knowledge of higher education and association organizations. Salary is commensurate with experience. Candidate must be a self-starter and have excellent leadership, planning, interpersonal and communications skills, be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and be highly motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy as a management team member.
