Ben Abercrombie Day at El Jefe’s Taqueria to be Celebrated December 12
Ben Abercrombie Day will be celebrated at El Jefe's Taqueria in Harvard Square on Tuesday, December 12, with all revenue generated by El Jefe’s being donated to The Benson M. Abercrombie ’21 Fund.
"All of us at El Jefe's are excited to partner with the Harvard Varsity Club to make Ben Abercrombie Day in Harvard Square our biggest day ever,” commented John Schall, owner of El Jefe’s Taqueria. “Our goal is to have a line out the door for 20 straight hours, from 8am to 4am. This is a day and an event that matters to let Ben know that we're there for him."
Patrons of El Jefe’s Taqueria, located at 83 Mt. Auburn Street in Harvard Square, will be able to contribute to the Abercrombie Fund in one of three ways:
- Every penny that comes through the door of El Jefe’s will be donated directly to the Abercrombie Fund. Patrons will also have the option to add an additional gift to the fund through El Jefe’s Point-Of-Sale terminal.
- Members of the Harvard Varsity Club will be on site during all 20 hours that El Jefe’s is open (8am-4am) to accept cash donations and gifts made by credit card.
- Gifts can be made online through the Harvard Varsity Club’s website by visiting www.harvardvarsityclub.org/AbercrombieFund.
“John Schall and everyone at El Jefe’s should be applauded for providing us the opportunity to support a worthy cause in a simple way—by eating the tasty food at El Jefe’s,” Bob Glatz ’88, The Broadbent Family Executive Director of the Harvard Varsity Club, stated. “It will be great to see the Harvard and Cambridge communities out in full force on December 12!”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick ’05 pushed the Abercrombie Fund into the national spotlight this past weekend by wearing custom #StandUpForBen cleats during the Bucs’ game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Fitzpatrick, who is in his 13th NFL season after being named the 2004 Ivy League Player of the Year, designed the cleats as part of the NFL’s "My Cause, My Cleats" campaign.
About The Benson M. Abercrombie ’21 Fund
Established by the Harvard Varsity Club in honor of Harvard freshman Ben Abercrombie, who suffered a serious cervical injury while making his Harvard football debut this fall, the Benson M. Abercrombie ’21 Fund will provide assistance to the Abercrombie family and any future Harvard undergraduate student-athlete who incurs a severe or catastrophic injury while competing for the Crimson while enrolled in Harvard College. Ben has a long fight ahead of him, and it is more important than ever for him to know that he has the full support of the Harvard community behind him.
