Women's Leadership Panel

The HVC is excited to welcome several influential and successful former student-athletes for a panel to discuss women's leadership and career development.

The women will discuss their own career paths, how athletics played a role in their trajectories, and how to transition from playing careers to various professions.

Panelists include: 

Caryn Davies '05--Gold medalist rower in the 2012 and 2008 Olympics. Davies is the most decorated Harvard Olympian in any sport, and she has won more Olympic medals than any other U.S. oarswoman. Davies was on the Radcliffe College Crew Team and was a member on Radcliffe's 2003 NCAA champion Varsity 8, and overall team champion. Davies has a degree from Harvard University (A.B. Psychology, 2005), a J.D. (Doctor of Law) from Columbia Law School (2013) and an MBA from Oxford University (2015). During 2013–2014, Davies served as a clerk to Judge Richard Clifton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is currently an attorney with Goodwin Proctor LLC in Boston MA, USA.

Johanna (Jody) Fink '90 HBS '95--Ms. Fink is the Chief Operating Officer of the Leducq Corporation, the US based arm of the Leducq Family Trust whose primary businesses include the global cardiovascular research-focused Fondation Leducq (www.fondationleducq.org), life sciences venture capital firm Broadview Ventures (www.broadviewventures.org) and Ehlers Estate winery (www.ehlersestate.com). Prior to this, she spent almost 20 years with Cambridge Associates (www.cambridgeassociates.com) in various investment and management roles ultimately serving as the Head of Investment Practices, Deputy Head of Global Investment Services and member the Executive Committee.  She also previously worked for McKinsey & Company in both Boston and New York and for the National Basketball Association in New York.  She is a graduate of Harvard Business School (MBA) and Harvard College (AB, magna cum laude). 

Karen Finney--former rower at UCLA, she most recently served as Senior Advisor for Communications and Political Outreach and Senior Spokesperson for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Additionally she was Communications Director for Senator Tim Kaine, the Vice Presidential nominee. Finney hosted her own television show on MSNBC, "Disrupt with Karen Finney", where she also worked as a contributor and political analyst for five years. Her work also includes four presidential campaigns, service in the Clinton White House, and Hillary Clinton's first New York Senate race. 

Patricia Henry--
Patricia Henry has been a member of Harvard's senior administration in the department of athletics since 1980. She currently serves as the department's senior associate director of athletics. Henry oversees the programming of the largest Division I varsity athletics program in the nation. She is responsible for the development and well-being of nearly 1,200 student-athletes and 42 varsity teams. Henry is the founder of the Harvard Radcliffe Foundation for Women's Athletics, which has greatly enhanced and broadened the programming and financial support for women's athletics programs at the university since the foundation's inception in 1981. Henry is a 1971 graduate of Gettysburg, where she was a standout in field hockey and basketball and was chosen as the school's outstanding female athlete as a senior. She holds a bachelor's degree in health and physical education and was inducted into Gettysburg's athletics hall of fame in 1987.

Sophie Morgan '10--
Morgan began swimming at the age of six and continued through college as a member of the Harvard Women’s Swimming & Diving Team. After graduating from Harvard, she took a gap year to travel before starting at Boston College Law School. Upon receiving her J.D., she relocated to Florida to focus on commercial real estate and general litigation for about a year. She returned to Boston to work for a small firm, where she switched focus from litigation to transactional law and spent a couple of years representing financial institutions in commercial real estate financings and general corporate loans. She is currently admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Florida and is a member of the Corporate Trust team within Nixon Peabody LLP’s Global Finance Department.
