Harvard Athletic Achievements

Prodigious and versatile, he was a standout on any athletic field, at home in any position. As a freshman he qualified for the Far Eastern baseball tour because of his versatility and went on to star as a pitcher, shortstop and first baseman for the varsity for three years, captaining the team as a senior. He won both the Wendell Bat and the Wingate Trophy in his sophomore and junior years, the only man to ever win both awards twice. Starred as a blocking back in football for two years, but an injury as a senior precluded an almost certain major league baseball career.
