A solid performer behind the plate, he starred for three years and was honored with the captaincy in both junior and senior years. A masterful  handler  of pitchers, a diamond psychologist of the first order, he led the Crimson to two winning seasons. A prime figure on the baseball visit to Japan in 1934, he charmed his hosts with his humor off the field and his fiery play on it.
