About the Event

The Harvard Varsity Club (HVC) Golf Tournament is the largest annual alumni event for the Harvard Athletics community, attracting over 200 alumni, Friends, athletic administrators, and head coaches from Harvard’s 42 varsity programs. The tournament epitomizes the HVC’s efforts to bring Harvard athletes together under one roof and all funds raised directly support the Club’s mission to preserve the traditions, foster the ideals, and advance the interests of Harvard Athletics. A community of over 25,000, the HVC is Harvard’s most active, supportive, and influential alumni common-interest group.

Former Harvard University police officer George Downing will be honored at this year’s tournament with the Harvard Varsity Club Award for “Outstanding accomplishment in preserving the traditions, fostering the ideals, and advancing the interests of the Club and of Harvard Athletics." Officer Downing spent a total of 40 years at Harvard, first as the Supervisor of Building and Grounds before beginning his 30-year tenure as a member of HUPD. Most alumni student-athletes will remember Officer Downing from his regular beat in the River Sector where he worked the midnight-to-8am shift. Everyone has a fond story to tell about Officer Downing and no doubt owes him a debt of gratitude. Please join us for a round of golf and dinner at Pinehills Golf Club on June 12 to help repay this debt as we recognize Officer Downing for his four-decades of contribution to Harvard and Harvard Athletics.
